in San Jose.  Silicon Valley Open Studios is a wonderful event where artists throughout San Mateo and
Santa Clara counties open their studios to the public to show and sell their work over the first three
weekends in May.

Our first Art on the Square of 2009!  Artists will be showing painting, jewelry, photography, glass, and
more.  You can find really special pieces for yourself, your home, or for the perfect gift.  Support your local
economy and excellent handmade American craftsmanship.  We join Music on the Square on Friday
evening.  As usual, we'll have a drawing for gift certificates.  Winners can “spend” their certificate in any
artist's booth.  Be sure to fill out an entry form (available in the artists' booths).  You might just be one of
the lucky winners!

This July Art on the Square brings fine art and craft to the streets surrounding Courthouse Square on
Broadway in the heart of downtown Redwood City.  We join Music on the Square on Fri the 24th and
continue on Sat the 25th with the fantastic line-up of incredible blues artists at the PAL Blues Festival
benefiting the Police Activities League.  At each show you can enter to win a gift certificate good for
purchases with the Art on the Square artist of your choice.  Spend your weekend in Redwood City’s
“outdoor living room”.

The festival celebrates its 27th year on tree-lined University Avenue in beautiful downtown Palo Alto
featuring
three hundred fine artists and crafters whose work you'll see only at select shows on the West
Coast.
 This year plein air artists, Shirley Lehner-Rhoades & Tonya Zenin, will be painting street scenes
at various locations throughout the festival.
 At the Italian Street Painting Expo chalk artists will not only be
creating works of art on the asphalt, but they will also have
work for sale on display in the Open Aire
Gallery.
 KDFC radio will be hosting the KDFC Classical Corner: a joint effort between the Palo Alto
Chamber Orchestra & KDFC to bring classical music to the public. Don't miss this great experience from

am until 2 pm both days.  Lytton Plaza will be the center of activity at 2 pm on Saturday. IN STYLE Palo
Alto, a high-fashion show
with designer apparel presented by local retailers: Far East Living, Fashion
Passion & JoS. A. Bank Clothiers.
Members of the community will strut down a 32 foot runway
showcasing garments for the eclectic shopper.

Free parking is within a block or two of the festival site, but festival attendees are encouraged to use
public transit. For transit information, call the TravInfo line in your area at 817-1717. Free and secure
bicycle parking
is available at the Union Bank parking lot on Waverley.

Our final Art on the Square of 2009!  We join Music on the Square on Friday evening.  Then all day Saturday for the second annual Redwood City
Salsa Festival.  There will be live entertainment, dancing, and of course - Salsa Tasting!  If you think your salsa is the bomb enter the Salsa Tasting
competition.  The application is available at the city's website (see above).
